Many think of Adventist Community Services (ACS) as quilting and sorting clothing. But it has changed with the community needs and continues to do so.
Although ACS programs continue to serve to vulnerable with hope and wholeness, there's also the need for food, shelter, immigration and legal help--and churches are stepping up to the plate to be of service.
Every year ACS Centers serve well over 100,000 clients with food, clothing, household items, bedding, furniture, rent assistance and other services. Churches are welcome and encouraged to become involved in these programs through in-kind or monetary donations, referrals, volunteering or supporting the addition of programs. Many ACS Centers are becoming Thrift Store Ministries.
Adventist Disaster Response (ACS-DR), is a trained volunteer network that responds to the needs of people affected by disasters. ACS-DR offers classes in household preparedness and to certify volunteers for response.
Volunteer to become part of the team that responds to disasters by becoming a donation warehouse volunteer, disaster trailer driver, or an emotional care provider after a disaster.

Doing Good in the Neighborhood
Urban ministries are unique programs that build on the needs and resources of the community. By learning about, and engaging the community first, churches are building effective programs that resonate with the community members. Examples include: Free Legal Clinic, English Language Learning, and senior exercise programs.
Whether beginning a new ministry or building on an existing one, the Urban Ministries model will help you end up with a ministry as unique as your community.

Every ministry has its pioneers. Those who pushed into uncharted territory and made significant contributions to our understanding and methods of ministry. We owe a debt to these people for their perseverance and dedication as they not only serve their communities, but also inspire other ACS leaders to strive towards excellence.
The purpose of this grant is to support the initiation or expansion of innovative, community-based ACS ministries in the Washington Conference while recognizing ACS leaders and volunteers who have initiated innovative, sustainable ministries.
The ACS Seed Grants are awarded to ACS programs and are intended to encourage innovation and increased humanitarian service in the community. Eligible ACS programs must be associated with one or more local Adventist churches.
The Seed Grant assists with capital purchases, and is a partnership between the NAD-ACS, the local church, and conference.
